Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction

Transforming infrastructure through smarter information

National infrastructure systems (energy, transport, water, waste and ICT) in advanced economies face serious challenges. Numerous reports such as the 2009 Council for Science and Technology report on national infrastructure, Engineering the Future report (2011) and the UK Government National Infrastructure Plan (2011) have all identified significant vulnerabilities, capacity limitations and a number of national infrastructure components nearing the end of their useful life.

This event will showcase ongoing research and emerging techniques and technologies to represent infrastructure systems as a complex interdependent system. Case study presentations will be given of approaches to reducing the vulnerability of infrastructure systems to large 'shocks' from natural hazards.
