Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction

Transforming infrastructure through smarter information

Kenneth Cukier, Data Editor of The Economist and co-author of Big Data: A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work, and Think, opens a special seminar which asks if the deluge of digital information holds the key to new ways of understanding the world.

Researchers from the University's newly-formed Cambridge Big Data strategic research initiative, and the Cambridge Digital Humanities Network will lead a discussion in the second part of the seminar.

The event will explore the potential and the perils of shifting the focus of analysis from causation to correlation, as companies and governments use the huge amounts of data generated by social media, sensor networks and online transactions to predict everything from the scale of a flu epidemic to social unrest.

This event is open to all, but pre-registration is required as a sandwich lunch will be provided.  Please book your place using the online registration link on this page.
