The 10th Brunel International Lecture series will be launched on Tuesday 17 June 2014 at the Institution of Civil Engineers and will be delivered around the world to engineers, planners, designers, developers and policy makers throughout 2014 and 2015. The Centre for Smart Infrastructure & Construction at the University of Cambridge is proud to host the 2nd stop of the Brunel International Lecture Series, which is delivered around the world for 24 months and culminates in the publishing of a key report by the speaker.

The series lecture, 'Collectively we are stronger - engineers generating collaborative solutions to strengthen community resilience post-disaster", and will be given by Duncan Gibb, Executive General Manager, SCIRT (Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team).

The lecture describes an internationally award-winning post-disaster collaborative recovery model (The Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team - SCIRT) designed by engineers, and organisational specialists, to meet the massive horizontal infrastructure challenges created by a series of devastating earthquakes that struck Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2010 and 2011.

In 2013, Duncan as a qualified Civil Engineer, was made an honorary Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and appointed as the 10th Brunel International Lecturer. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ).

Duncan is the General Manager of the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT), a unique collaborative public/private partnership created to deliver the NZ$2.5 billion rebuild of the Christchurch publicly-owned horizontal infrastructure (water, wastewater, drainage and roading) damaged by the series of earthquakes of 2010/11.

The SCIRT organisation has since grown into a 2,000-strong team, visible across the city of Christchurch on over 150 project sites.

During a 30 year career in civil construction Duncan has held a number of General Management and project-based roles in Australia and New Zealand - delivering major infrastructure projects, many of which were delivered through an intentional collaborative high performance team organisational structure.

The Brunel International Lecture was instituted in 1999 in memory of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, 1806-1859, in recognition of his contribution to civil engineering.
