CSIC is working on a collaborative project on:

Automated generation of as-built BIM models for bridges

The project, led by Professor Campbell Middleton, aims to produce the modelling tools and standards needed to automatically obtain semantically rich BIM models of existing bridges.

The main goals are:

  • automatic generation of 3D geometric models of existing bridges from point cloud data, obtained using specific technologies (video/photogrammetry, laser-scanning)
  • generation of IFC-compliant BIM models that integrate the 3D models generated with sensor location and pre-processed data.

CSIC is hosting a workshop to discuss data collection, data modelling, and the extension of existing IFC standards, and would greatly appreciate your input in this knowledge sharing and scoping session. The workshop will be led by key staff Dr Jennifer Schooling, CSIC Director; Dr Ioannis Brilakis, expert in the field; and 2 of the researchers working on the project, Dr Viorica Patraucean and Manuel Davila.
