Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction

Transforming infrastructure through smarter information

Abstract: Research and innovation in the construction and infrastructure sector has been mostly outsourced from the industry to academia. This creates a duplicitous challenge: most of the research is being done by universities, outside the context and realities of the industry. Yet, for the research to have impact, it needs to be implemented and adopted by the industry on the ground. How do we bridge that gap? What are the realities, intricacies and challenges of deploying a research project commercially? In this talk, we will walk through this challenge together, using the latest spin-off from the Department of Engineering as a use-case: Didimi.
