Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction

Transforming infrastructure through smarter information

Speaker: Dr Nicky de Battista, CSIC, Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge

CSIC's Dr Nicky de Battista is giving a talk for Forum Periti Inginiera on the merits and methods of monitoring civil infrastructure, highlighting some of the main reasons why monitoring the performance of a built asset is not only useful but, in some cases, essential.

The development of a relatively new monitoring technology, distributed fibre optic sensors (DFOS), is a potential game changer in monitoring. Dr de Battista will discuss both the technology and its application in various case studies, including an 11-metre diameter Crossrail station tunnel with a sprayed concrete lining, a 45-metre-deep pile foundation load tested to failure and Principal Tower, a 50-storey high-rise residential building.

The talk - on 8 April 2021 at 6pm BST - is free and open to all. Please register here.
