A GIS-based infrastructure management system to increase resilience of terrestrial transportation networks

CSIC Research Associate Dr Georgios Hadjidemetriou has received the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) Postdoc award for research excellence.

Announcing the award, Professor Tim Minshall, Head of the IfM at the University of Cambridge, reflected on the extraordinary achievements and activities of all the nominated researchers, and congratulated Georgios for his ability to "balance all his activities expected of a researcher and more at such an early stage of his career".  Georgios is currently working on the SAFEWAY project – 'A GIS-based infrastructure management system for optimised response to extreme events on terrestrial transport networks' which aims to address the ability of transport systems to function during challenging circumstances and quickly recover to acceptable levels of service after extreme events.

This is the second year the Postdoc awards have been given by the IfM. Other winners were Dr Tariq Masood for Teaching and Dr Niamh Fox for academic citizenship.
