CSIC will host a prestigious event for industry, titled Smart Infrastructure and Construction – the Future? to showcase opportunities presented by smart infrastructure solutions and highlight the importance of industry adoption of the ‘digital revolution’.
The invitation-only event, to be attended by senior leaders in the infrastructure and construction industries, including clients, government departments, Tier 1 contractors and consultants, will be held at the Royal Academy of Engineering, in London, on Tuesday 15 March.
Andrew Wolstenholme OBE, CEO of Crossrail, will present the welcome and set the scene before Professor Lord Mair, Head of CSIC, highlights the work and impact of CSIC to transform the infrastructure and construction industry through smarter information. Lord Mair will introduce a number of industry figures who will present a range of projects that provide practical examples of value from CSIC’s work. These include:
• Phil Holland, Structures Project Manager, Laing O’Rourke - Staffordshire Alliance Project
• Chris Dulake, Formerly Chief Engineer, Crossrail - The value of monitoring of sprayed concrete lining in tunnels using distributed fibre optic sensors
• Andrew Bell, Chief Engineer, Cementation Skanska - The role of distributed sensors in underground infrastructure - ‘a contractors perspective’
• Mark Enzer, Group Practice Manager, Mott MacDonald - Smart infrastructure – why it has to be the future.
“CSIC’s ability to collaboratively foster innovation and implement smart solutions in infrastructure and construction is proven,” says Dr Jennifer Schooling, Director of CSIC. “As an industry we must continue to break down barriers and engage at all levels to nurture innovation, placing it at the heart of infrastructure planning.
“This event brings together key industry figures and policy makers to highlight the opportunities smart infrastructure brings, the value it delivers and the pressing need for wide industry adoption. No one organisation can do this alone. If we work together, we all benefit.”
Industry leaders will demonstrate the impact and value delivered by smart infrastructure solutions including Michael Cervenka, Head of the Strategic Research Centre, Rolls-Royce, who will speak about the digitally-enabled service revolution, and Professor John Haine, Chairman of the Internet of Things (IoT) Security Foundation who will speak about IoT and cyber security. Dr Jennifer Schooling will conclude the presentations by speaking about the future direction of CSIC and a panel discussion will bring the event to a close.
