Heba Bevan and Mehdi Alhaddad, both PhD students at CSIC, have secured six award nominations for the NCE Tunnelling and Underground Space Awards 2015, to be announced in London on 3 Dec 2015.
New Civil Engineer Editor, Mark Hansford, said: “This year's finalists have all demonstrated how the international tunnelling industry has continued to drive innovation and improve safety. Picking our winners is a tough challenge and this year we are helped with a greatly expanded panel of judges representing clients, academia, consultants and contractors from across the globe. The winners will be truly exceptional.”

Technical Innovation of the Year Award: Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction - CSattAR - CsattAR Monitoring
Technical Innovation of the Year Award: UtterBerry - UtterBerry Wireless Sensor Systems
CSIC is defending the prestigious Ground Investigation and Monitoring Award, which commends innovation and excellence in site investigations. Last year CSIC’s Smart Tunnel project, which showcased the UtterBerry wireless sensor system, fibre optic and photogrammetric technologies, won the award. This year CSattAR monitoring, developed by Mehdi Alhaddad, is on the shortlist.
