CSIC moved into the new Civil Engineering building last week, which houses the National Research Facility in Infrastructure Sensing (NRFIS), as part of the Department of Engineering’s ‘Move West’ strategy.

The University of Cambridge received £18million in 2015 to build a National Research Facility for Infrastructure Sensing as part of wider investment in the UK Collaboration for Research in Infrastructure & Cities (UKCRIC), which includes 13 university partners.

Construction was completed on the new Civil Engineering building in May and at every stage of work the building was instrumented, with six sensor packages installed in the roof to the foundations, five of which have been led by CSIC investigators. The building also has an energy/cost metric to minimise energy usage, design for deconstruction and elements of innovative concrete.

For more information on the sensor packages, please visit the NRFIS website

The new address for CSIC is: Civil Engineering Building, JJ Thompson Avenue 7a, Cambridge, CB3 0FA.
