CSIC has featured widely in the media and attracted industry acclaim, awards and nominations in the past year. Achievements include six nominations for the forthcoming Ground Engineering Awards 2015, to be announced in June, and winning the prestigious Ground Investigation and Monitoring Award for the Smart Tunnel at the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Awards 2014.

Asset management is of increasing interest to industry and public sector property managers. CSIC’s Asset Management team has been working with Cambridgeshire County Council to apply a best value-based prioritisation tool to the council’s annual bridge maintenance programme.

The construction/infrastructure sector has traditionally been slow in exploiting IT waves to their full potential. This has resulted in an industry that significantly lags others in most performance indicators: value for money, safety, sustainability and quality. Currently, the sector is experiencing the midpoint of the BIM IT wave. The next wave will be centred on Big Data and the Internet-of-Things, says Dr Ioannis Brilakis of the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction.
