Dr Wen Hu will give a Seminar on Compressive Sensing in Cyber Physical Systems on Tuesday, August 27th 2013, 1pm at University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory, 15 JJ Thomson Avenue, Cambridge CB3 OFD.
Dr. Hu is a Visiting Researcher at the Swedish Institute of Computer Science (SICS). His current position is Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO Computational Informatics where he leads a talented research team working in pervasive information systems at Autonomous Systems Laboratory. Much of Dr Hu’s research career has focused on novel applications, low-power communications and security issues in sensor networks and pervasive computing systems. He has recently become interested in the applications of compressive sensing in Internet of Things (IoT).
Dr Hu publishes regularly in top rated sensor network venues such as ACM /IEEE IPSN , ACM SenSys, EWSN , ACM transactions on Sensor Networks (TOSN), proceedings of the IEEE , and ad-hoc networks. Dr Hu received his PhD from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), in Computer Science and Engineering. He is a recipient of the prestigious CSIRO Office of Chief Executive (OCE), Julius Career Award (2012 – 2015) and CSIRO OCE postdoctoral grant. Dr Hu holds adjunct Associate Professor positions at Queensland University of Technologies, University of Queensland, and University of New South Wales. He is a senior member of ACM and IEEE , and serves on the organising and program committees of networking conferences/workshops including ACM /IEEE IPSN , ACM SenSys, ACM MobiSys, IEEE LCN , IEEE ICC , IEEE WCNC , IEEE DCOSS , IEEE GlobeCom, IEEE PIMRC , and IEEE VTC .
Compressive Sensing (CS) is a recent information theory that promises to lower the sampling rates for a signal by an order-of-magnitude if the signal is sparse in some transformed domains such as Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). Dr Hu will present his recent work on applying CS in three CPS applications, sensor network localisation, background subtraction in embedded camera networks, and sound classification in acoustic sensor networks.
