Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction

Transforming infrastructure through smarter information

The public health and environmental impact of the continued use of vehicles which emit CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) and NO(Nitrogen Dioxide) is well known.  The Government is advancing its plans for the transition to a green, low emission economy at an ever-increasing rate. Most recently outlined in the March 2020 Decarbonising Transport Plan, which places a renewed emphasis on cleaner, greener public transport, increased physical transport, greater connectivity and a move away from the use of cars.

This timely event brings together key policymakers involved in the development of the Decarbonising Transport strategy and those who are tasked with realising its ambition of creating a net-zero transport and infrastructure system. Making the UK a world leader in environmentally sustainable, low carbon technology and a hyper-connected low carbon economy. Participants will be able to share in best practice case studies, learning from early adopters demonstrating how best to introduce leading initiatives to enable every community to live a healthy, well connected, low emission future and achieve net-zero by 2050.

CSIC Director, Dr Jennifer Schooling will be presenting on 'The Role of Data in Decarbonising the Delivery and Management of Infrastructure Assets'. Using better data, and using data better, to improve how we design, build, operate and manage our infrastructure promises to bring not just cost savings and resource efficiencies, but opportunities to dramatically and rapidly decrease our carbon emissions. The emergence of the concept of the ‘digital twin’ will provide the tools to interrogate data and deliver informed decisions.
