Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction

Transforming infrastructure through smarter information

University of Cambridge Festival 2021
Bringing buildings to life – smart infrastructure at the Civil Engineering Building

Curious minds of all ages will have the opportunity to virtually visit the Civil Engineering Building – home to the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction, CSIC. Visitors are invited to see how smart infrastructure brings a building to life by engaging with platforms that collect and visualise rich streams of data coming from sensors deployed across the structure which let researchers know if the building is performing as designed.

Enter the web hub where you can surf around and interact with 3D models of instrumented areas of the building and see visualisations of the data. Hear how sensors work and follow the journey of data from where it’s collected to its arrival at the web hub. Researchers will explain the current importance and capabilities of smart buildings, as well as share ideas about the future of our built environment. We hope you will join us in this virtual experience, where visitors are not just a passive audience but an active engaging with the smart technologies bringing the Civil Engineering Building to life.

This research and event forms part of the Centre for Digital Built Britain’s (CDBB) work at the University of Cambridge. It was enabled by the Construction Innovation Hub, of which CDBB is a core partner, and funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF).

All ideas for the web hub are very welcome! – some work in progress:
