“A glimpse into the future …. By considering the past.  The challenges, the opportunities – and our consciences”

Abstract: The potential to deliver a smarter infrastructure to support a healthier and more prosperous society appears enormous, with the availability of more data than we know what to do with, and the ability to monitor and control not only the physical assets and resources moving through them, but the people as well.  But this raises questions about ethics, and how we ensure that as humans we remain an essential part of the decision making process.  If we reflect on how mistakes have been made in the past, can this provide insight into how we can avoid some of the unintended consequences for the future?

This lecture will explore some of the challenges and opportunities we face in designing for a smarter infrastructure, and delve a little into how our consciences may help to guide our way forward.

Refreshments and poster session from 4.30pm.  Following the lecture drinks will be served at 6.30pm.

This lecture is free and open to the public. To confirm your attendance please email: .
