CSIC International Advisory Group Chair brings Terzaghi Lecture to Cambridge

Professor Tom O’Rourke, Chair of CSIC’s International Advisory Group and Thomas R Briggs Professor of Engineering in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University, will give the Terzaghi Lecture at the Department of Engineering next month.

Professor Andrew McNaughton, a member of the CSIC Steering Group and Technical Director of HS2, has been appointed Chair of the Paris-based International Railways Union (UIC) inter-city and high-speed rail forum. Professor McNaughton is the first Briton to hold the post.

Head of CSIC, Professor Lord Mair, has been introduced to the House of Lords. The introduction ceremony takes place in the Lords Chamber before each new Member is able to take their seat in the House. The ceremony of introduction of newly created peers dates in its present form from 1621.

New vibration energy harvester powers-up on Forth Road Bridge

A CSIC-developed energy harvester has been tested on the Forth Road Bridge in Scotland where, powered only by traffic and wind induced bridge vibrations, it was demonstrated successfully powering a wireless mote which transmitted data to a receiver mote.
