Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC)
CSIC is a globally recognised research group in Civil Engineering at Cambridge University, it specialises in smart infrastructure and construction by adopting a data-centric, whole-life systems approach, supported by a diverse team of multidisciplinary academics. It collaborates across disciplines and with industry to create tangible impacts. Its overarching aim is to deliver pragmatic solutions to real-world challenges. Through the University of Cambridge, CSIC is an active member of the UK Collaboratorium for Research on Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC) and is hosted in the UKCRIC-funded National Research Facility for Infrastructure Sensing (NRFIS).
We collaborate across policy, standards and industry to accelerate the timeframe for smart infrastructure innovations to become part of the industry mainstream, effecting transformative change and delivering benefits to all stakeholders. The film below created with industry partners in 2020, describes how CSIC has worked with industry since its inception in 2011.
How CSIC works in partnership with industry - a short introductory video
CSIC works at a number of strategic levels to influence and inform changes required to secure greater efficiency in the design, construction and operation of our infrastructure, providing leadership in exploiting data from monitoring real infrastructure performance to reduce carbon, increase resilience and preserve resources.
