Transforming infrastructure through smarter information

Professor Campbell Middleton to deliver TRF ICE Fellows Lecture

Professor Campbell R. Middleton, Laing O’Rourke Professor of Construction Engineering at the University of Cambridge, Fellow of the Transport Research Foundation and member of the CSIC team, will deliver this year’s TRF ICE Fellows Lecture.

The lecture, titled Transforming construction – challenging the status quo, will take place on Monday 23 June, at the Institution of Civil Engineers in London.

Professor Middleton will argue that the construction industry is at a crossroads. Faced with the prospect of scarcer resources and the need to dramatically decrease carbon emissions, industry must adapt to operate more efficiently and sustainably. At the same time the global population is rapidly growing and urbanising, demanding both increased construction activity and infrastructure that can provide housing, transport, water, energy and digital communications networks for the cities of the 21st century.

Professional Middleton will discuss key ideas of how the industry needs to transform itself in relation to various stages of the construction process, specifically planning and procurement, design and analysis, construction, operation and management and end-of-life. The lecture will challenge current practices and alternative concepts will be evaluated.

Registration will be open from 18.00 with the lecture commencing at 18.30. To reserve a place at the lecture visit: http://www.ice.org.uk/TRF2014
