A tall truck hits a bridge every four and a half hours in the UK causing traffic chaos and thousands of pounds in bridge inspection, repair and maintenance costs.

The start-up company 8power, specialists in vibration energy harvesting and self-powered wireless sensors, has been awarded Best Technical Development in Energy Harvesting at the 2017 IDTechEX conference in Berlin.

The launch of the UK Collaboratorium for Research on Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC), a major UK research programme established with an investment of £125 million by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), marks the government’s commitment to investment in infrastructure research that will support the nation’s changing needs and grow the economy.

A CSIC-authored paper titled ‘Towards the future-proofing of UK infrastructure’ has received the prestigious Telford Premium prize, awarded for best paper in journal by the ICE Editorial Panel, the ICE Publishing Awards 2017.
